![]() ![]() ![]() I’ve struggled a bit with digital reading, so these have been mainly physical books – unusual for me and a lovely change. It’s been a good reading month – I’ve read some great books, including a few outside my comfort zone! This month, I’ve read 13 books. Links provided are affiliate links – thanks for supporting my blog with any purchases. In the place of my usual WWW Wednesday post, I have my end of my end of month wrap up and a look at what is coming up in my bookish world in April. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Praise for The Hearts We Sold:* "Beautifully written and elegantly characterized, this is a thoughtful, melancholy tale of love and redemption, magic and choice. ![]() "synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title. ![]() This book will steal your heart and break it, and leave you begging for more. In The Hearts We Sold, demons can be outwitted, hearts can be reclaimed, monsters can be fought, and love isn't impossible. As something like love grows between them amid an otherworldly ordeal, Dee begins to wonder: Can she give James her heart when it's no longer hers to give? Reality is turned on its head, and Dee has only her fellow "heartless," the charming but secretive James Lancer, to keep her grounded. And what comes after Dee makes her deal is a nightmare far bigger, and far more monstrous than anything she ever could have imagined. The demon who Dee approaches doesn't trade in the usual arms and legs, however. But this is a world where demons exist, and the demons are there to make deals: one human body part in exchange for one wish come true. Her home life sucks (to put it mildly), and she's about to get booted from her boarding school-the only place she's ever felt free-for lack of funds. A "beautifully written and elegantly characterized" blend of fantasy, horror, and romance ( Booklist, starred review), perfect for fans of Holly Black and Stranger Things.ĭee Moreno is out of options. ![]() ![]() ![]() And the ways that they are intertwined, and just generally all of the somewhat horrifying implications of what their presence on earth means to the world. The first book in this series introduces Charley, Cookie and the many people in her life, this novel then starts to investigate and highlight not only Charley’s relationship to Reyes, but their powers. ![]() One that I look forward to picking up in the next Charley Davidson novel. Starting a chapter with a bit of a giggle, and continuing in that vein throughout the whole book? It was a wild and incredibly funny ride. That, and every chapter starts with a sassy pun on her t-shirt that helps to set the tone of the chapter. I absolutely love how she careens from one moment of trouble to another, with no real clue how she’s gotten there. ![]() Charley is ridiculously sassy and glorious – she might find herself in situation after situation, but she always handles it with plenty of humour and wit. This book, like the first in this series is filled with laugh out loud goodness. ![]() ![]() ![]() IT IS A VIOLATION PUNISHABLE UNDER LAW FOR ANY PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF TWENTY-ONE TO PRESENT ANY WRITTEN EVIDENCE OF AGE WHICH IS FALSE, FRAUDULENT OR NOT ACTUALLY HIS/HER OWN FOR THE PURPOSE OF ATTEMPTING TO PURCHASE ANY ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE. ![]()
![]() ![]() This fast-paced, action-packed mythological science fiction takes you through many exotic ancient civilisations, including a distant planet with milky-white oceans known as Vaikunth.Īncient scriptures of almost all cultures across the world mention about the great global floods (also known as Pralay) during distant past, that wiped out most of humanity. ![]() Who is this immortal nemesis from prehistoric times? Will spiritual warrior Haŕa be able to overcome his personal crisis and stand up against this grave threat to humanity? Will Hanumān help him wield Rama's legendary kundalini weapon called Shārang? Will Uma be able to free herself from Mahisha's clutches? As with Borges’ Aleph, everything can be anywhere at once (in a transvestite friend’s lip liner, in an old teenage flame), and any given moment contains within it the latent possibility of thousands more. Cărtărescu constantly reinvents them, in the process reinventing himself in books that seek to unpack the infinite layers of what we call reality. ![]() You could say that his work is a kind of love letter to Bucharest, to its mythologies and legends, to the history of the city and those who inhabit it. His own writing- unclassifiable, visionary, devastating- has been recognized by some of the most prestigious prizes in Europe and has a growing number of devotees around the world. This is down, in part, to his looks- the piercing gaze and wry smile, the long hair and almost adolescent slimness-, but also to his enduring sense of wonder at what he calls “the vast poem in which we live,” and, above all, to his boundless passion for literature. At sixty plus, Mircea Cărtărescu (Bucharest, 1956) still retains an intriguingly youthful air. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Many residents also suffered cuts and bruises.Ī nighttime curfew for those 17 and under was issued by Eddie Treviño Jr., the Cameron County judge, and is expected to end May 16 to "mitigate the effects of this public health and safety emergency."
